02/05/2008 - Leather Working Group

In April, Crest Leathers took part in the latest meeting of the Leather Working Group (LWG) which was held after the Asia Pacific Leather Fair in Hong Kong.

The LWG is an industry led initiative to develop and maintain a protocol that assesses the compliance and environmental performance of tanners and promotes sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry. 

While the main focus of the LWG so far has been on the footwear industry, Crest is strongly committed to the ideas and principles adopted by the group, and has signed up to lead the way in extending the group’s scope to the upholstery industry.  Crest hopes to be the first upholstery tannery audited by the LWG and is planning audits of both its existing tanneries in 2008.
